Safe Seed Pledge

We only sell seeds created by traditional breeding practices.

GMO Seeds(Genetically Modified Organisms)
Vs.
Hybrid Seeds (Marked Hybrid)
Vs.
Open Pollinated Seeds (marked as Heirloom)

A GMO is an organism whose genetic material has been changed by forcing genes from one species, such as bacteria, viruses, animals, or humans, into the DNA of a separate species to create a completely unnatural trait. Cleveland Seed Co. does NOT sell GMO seeds.

A Hybrid is the result from this cross-pollination of two plants in the same species. For example a hybrid tomato is created by the selective breeding of two different tomato varieties to bring out certain favorable characteristics such as disease resistance.

An Open Pollinated (Heirloom) tomato is the result of a tomato that pollinates with the same exact species. An example would be if a Cherokee Purple Tomato was bred with another Cherokee Purple Tomato. The resulting seeds would be 100% true.
